Pros and Cons of Vehicle Wraps

Vehicle wraps can be an effective way of branding company vehicles and turning them into mobile advertisements, but it is important to make sure that they are used appropriately and that the right design choices are being made. There are many advantages to using vehicle graphics, but there are also some potential pitfalls to take into account.


Visibility is one of the key advantages of vehicle wraps. A car or van displaying the company logo might be seen by tens of thousands of people every day, especially if it spends a lot of time on the move or is parked in a prominent location. This vehicle branding is particularly good at reaching a target audience in a specific locality.

Vehicle Wrapping

As well as being seen frequently, vehicle wraps can also be one of the more effective forms of advertising. The designs are very versatile, with plenty of choices for colours, graphics and lettering, and a range of different finishes from matte to gloss. Drivers are very likely to notice and read the information that they see around them, including those on other vehicles, and the impression is often strong enough that the message will be remembered later.

Another advantage of advertising on company vehicles is that they provide an exclusive space that is under the control of the owner. There is no need to compete with other messages or pay for advertising space. Once the graphic has been created and applied to the vehicle, it could last for as long as five years, particularly if it is well cared for and cleaned regularly. A one-off investment can create a long-term advertisement that will often be protected by a warranty that guarantees the design will remain striking and legible.

One of the main advantages over painting company designs on vehicles is that when the design needs to be changed, or if the vehicle is to be resold, the wrap can easily be removed by an experienced installer, leaving the paintwork underneath looking fresh. Covering the paint with one of the thicker types of wrap can actually protect it from wear and tear, so the car will look better when it is sold because it has been protected for so long.


One of the main disadvantages of vehicle wraps is that the initial cost can be high. This is why it is important to consider whether branding vehicles will be right for a particular company before investing in wraps. It is also worth considering how long the vehicle is likely to remain in use and whether the design has the necessary longevity. Vehicle wraps are not usually suitable for short-term use or promotions.

Another potential problem is that even the most durable wraps will eventually begin to show signs of ageing. Designs can become worn or faded, and there is also the risk that leaving them on the vehicle too long will cause them to bond too strongly with the surface. This could make it difficult to remove the wrap cleanly when the car is to be sold on.

Applying the wraps to older vehicles can also be problematic. Any lumps and bumps on the surface of the car will interfere with the design and make it appear less professional, while any repainted sections will make it difficult for the wrap to adhere properly to the vehicle. Vehicle wraps work best when they are applied to newer vehicles with smooth, clean paint.
